The Power Of Your Words

What you say can preserve life or destroy it. So, you must accept the consequences of your words. Proverbs 18:21

Words are like seeds with deep roots thrown into the fertile ground which grows into life. Words have also been an instrument of good or bad. What is broken can’t be fixed with words, and also with the same word a whole generation can be destroyed. Words have the power of life and death. Words are destinations. Words have always been the foundation of all things; the earth was created by the release of God’s word in the book of Genesis 1:3 “And God said, let there be light: and there was light”.

If we read through the first chapter of Genesis, you would discover that there are a lot “God said” so this should give us an understanding that word is not just mere words and are not just mere statement that comes out of the mouth, they are power and spirit. That’s why the bible would also tell us to guide our tongue. The book of James 3:5 makes us understand that the tongue is a small part of the body, yet it carries great power. We are created in the same image of God, we have the spirit of God in us, so do you think our words don’t carry power? It sure does, the bible says, “Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways” (Job 22:28).

Verse 8 of James 3 makes us understand that no man can tame the tongue; it is a fickle, irreconcilable evil, full of deadly poison. This simply means if you do not have God help you guide your tongue, then with the same tongue you use to praise God, you will also use it to curse your fellow brother, which shouldn’t be.

Words have always been a determinant of what is in your heart, Matthew 12:34. Because with words, you could also know what is in people’s hearts. Words go a long way than a mere combination of sounds or sentences. The bible also makes us understand that words should be taken seriously, biblically Words could mean a lot of things like declaration, the spirit of God and more.

So we should be careful of our words because it can either impact you positively or negatively. It either builds or destroys, no other way about it. So you could decide for yourself the kind of words you want to proceed out of your mouth. If it is words that would build and make one flourish or words that would destroy and make one not grow.

“And now just as you trusted Christ to save you, trust him, too, for each day’s problems; live in vital union with him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him and draw up nourishment from him. See that you go on growing in the Lord, and become strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives overflow with joy and thanksgiving for all he has done.” Colossians 2:6-7 TLB
