NOTHING BUT MERCY

Many live their lives thinking God owes them something in return when they do something right. The bible says do unto the next person what you would do to yourself. This means you should love the next person just as you love yourself. So if you truly love the next person as you do yourself and you are nice or you do something good to someone, then you shouldn’t feel you need a reward from God, because you believe it is a give or does and compensative relationship.
Of course, there are blessings that come with doing good and doing the will of God, but that’s up to God. “And God said, “I will cause all My goodness to pass before you, and call out the Name of Adonai before you. I will be gracious toward whom I will be gracious, and I will show mercy on whom I will be merciful. Exodus 33:19
So, whenever we do something right. Like giving to the poor, engaging in church activities, being nice to people, that does not mean God owes us something in return. Because if we count by the amount of good we do or how righteous we think we are – base on our good deeds – then we will be judged and we won’t be found worthy.
As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one; Romans 3:10, so we shouldn’t think by the little form of kindness we are able to show towards our neighbor makes us righteous or feel God owes us something in return.
